Grand rising friends of eKa Circle,
With the New Moon just around the corner, it is a great time to clear out anything this week that no longer serves us. Plant some new intentions for your own personal health & abundance. New moon is generally a chance to set the stage for long-term intentions & new projects. This will be a BIG one leading into a rather rare solar eclipse! Eclipses can serve as a reminder that change is a natural part of life. They present an opportunity & reason to let go of what is no longer serves us. New beckons to embrace a better chapter of growth & transformation. This season is your catalyst for positive change.
The universe is guiding you closely at this time. Pay attention to the synchronicities. Keep an open mind & be ready to move in brand new directions. Your status quo crumblers present themselves when we refuse to let go of something that is holding us back from our greatest destiny. One must release to receive. Many in this season are boldly embracing this huge collective shift & making changes swiftly.
I started reading last week how much microplastic was in things like makeup!!!! Actioned to start culling my bathroom cupboards.
Examining your skincare & beauty routine is an excellent way to supercharge your wellbeing by ensuring that the products you are using are free of chemicals & plastics. Ideally what you place on your skin should be edible. The best part about toxin-free is that it will leave you feeling and looking utterly luscious & luminous! Did you know those wrinkles that we see in the mirror are often more about dehydration, the chemicals that are sneakily sold to us, your fascia & some well needed emotional healing than what the large corporations would have you believe??? Time to break out of the matrix.
How much do you actually spend on beauty care each year? Have you ever actually thought about that & where you could better invest that cash?
Here are some things to look out for in your products…
It can often be confusing to know what to avoid. In general, it is best to avoid any ingredient, natural or synthetic, which can poison the environment or cause harm to your health. The ingredients listed have been proven toxic & mutagenic in animal studies. Avoid at all costs.
1. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) / Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and other sulphate-based detergents: These are used in car washes, garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers and 90% of personal care products that foam. Eye damage, depression, laboured breathing, diarrhoea + skin & eye irritation have been linked to their use. Not only are they harmful, but they are also extremely drying to the hair and skin. They have been shown to change the structure of skin protein making it susceptible to sun damage & accelerated ageing.
2. Propylene glyc polyethylene glycol and various ingredients formulated with PEGs and PGs: PEGs have been found in everything from personal care products, baby care & sunscreens. They act as binders & plasticise ingredients. They are designed to enhance the penetration of other ingredients into the skin. This is often a double whammy when you consider that there are often many ingredients in these products that you do not want to be penetrating deeply through the skin barrier. Dioxin is a by-product of the process used to create propylene glycol. Dioxin has been linked to cancer, reduced immunity, nervous system disorders, miscarriage & birth deformity. If you see a PEG on your beauty product ingredient list this is definitely a product you do not want to be absorbed into your skin.
3. Parabens (methyl, butyl, ethyl, propyl): Parabens are preservatives and allow skincare products to survive for months or even years in your medicine cabinet. They are used in deodorants and other skincare products and have been found in breast cancer tumours. Parabens are known endocrine disruptors that have been linked to cancer and hormonal imbalances. There are plant-based & plant-derived preservatives on the market which make it unnecessary to use products containing parabens. Edible Beauty products are persevered using Sodium Anisate and Sodium Levulinate derived from Aniseed and starch. Our skincare is also packaged in Miron glass which helps to preserve and activate our botanical ingredients.
4. Phthalates (DBP, DEP, DEHP, and DMP): Phthalates are most often used to create fragrances in cosmetic products. They are known endocrine and fertility disruptors. The scary reality which exists around phthalates is that we are exposed to them in so many areas of our life – from our cleaning products, haircare to personal care and makeup. The storage of these toxins in fat cells & their bio-accumulation over time makes a strong case for avoiding exposure to synthetic fragrances. With so many natural essential oils & extracts on the market, there is no need to reach for synthetic fragrances.
5. Synthetic (FD&C and other) dyes and colourants: Synthetic colours from coal tar contain heavy metal salts that deposit toxins in the skin, causing skin sensitivity/irritation. Absorption can cause depletion of oxygen, and animal studies show the majority are carcinogenic. Look for makeup which uses natural iron oxide to create pigments. You will be surprised at the colour assortments that can be created by natural pigments.
6. Benzyl Peroxide: This is predominantly used in acne products and may act as a mutagen, producing DNA damage in human and other mammalian cells. Natural anti-microbial extracts, Kakadu Plum, Aloe Vera & Salicylic Acid are alternatives to harsh acne treatments and solve acne problems as quickly and effectively as their chemical counterparts.
7. DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) and TEA (Triethanolamine): This foam booster is a skin irritant and causes contact dermatitis. It is easily absorbed through the skin to accumulate in body organs and the brain. The more you can get used to milk and oil-based cleansers, the happier your skin will be. Not only do oil-based cleansers prevent your skin being stripped of its natural oils, but they also enable the skin to balance oil production by providing it exactly what it needs so that it does not overcompensate by overproducing oil.
8. Formaldehyde: I KNOW RIGHT-WHAT???? Is most often used in cosmetics as a disinfectant and preservative. Be cautious of products containing 1,4-dioxane, as this can also release formaldehyde in certain chemical processes. Formaldehyde is a carcinogen, skin, eye & lung irritant.
9. Microplastics: New research shows that a whopping 87% of products from best-selling cosmetics brands contain microplastics. Isn’t that shocking???? From eyeshadows, mascara, lipstick, foundation to body scrubs and facemasks, even soaps. This one is tricky to identify on the labelling. Not only is it is toxic for you but it is so damaging to our natural waterways.
The only real way we will actually change things is to STOP buying products that allow for this. It is not only toxicity for you & your family to consider -it is the environmental consequences and the animal cruelty in the testing process.
