While practising sound healing it is necessary to explain brainwave patterns to many that are first timers so I thought I might take the time to type a brief and very basic explanation of what happens in the brain and how hz sounds affects our brainwave state.
In a nutshell brain waves are electrical impulses. The currency. The fire in us. Each individuals behaviour, emotions and thoughts are communicated between neurons, basically these are fast or slow electrical pulses. The classic names of eeg bands are delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma.
The first time I recall really digging into this I actually heard these words in a theta dream state one morning as I was waking up and I was told the name of a friend to discuss it with. Funnily enough he has studied this intensively ( I did not have any knowledge of this)- and that in itself is a great example of consciousness in motion.
- delta brainwaves (0.5-4 hz) are the slowest, highest amplitude brain waves. Sleep and dream state. Restorative and healing state.
- theta brainwaves (4-8 hz) are day dream state. A very relaxed state representing the twilight zone between waking and sleeping.Creative insight, dreams, reduced consciousness.
- alpha brainwaves (8-13 hz)are slower and larger. They are the state of relaxation. Closing your eyes and picturing something peaceful will result in an increase of alpha brain waves.
- beta brainwaves (13-38hz) are faster brain waves associated with a state of mental and intellectual attention and outwardly focused concentration. An alert state. Decision making, problem solving, active conversation, learning a new task or concept.
- gamma brainwaves (39-100 hz) are the fastest and most subtle waves. Gamma rhythms modulate a heightened perception and consciousness. Considered to be peak mental state.
Everyone of us have a degree of each of these brainwave states present in parts of our brain. Delta will also occur when areas of the brain go “offline” to take up nourishment. If we are drowsy there are more delta and slow theta waves creeping in. If we are inattentive and our minds are wandering there are more theta brainwaves present. People with adhd, learning disabilities, head injuries, stroke, tourette’s syndrome, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia tend to have excessive slow waves (usually theta sometimes alpha). This can radically affect concentration, moods, emotions and cause hyperactivity.
Think of gamma as having a processing upgrade for your brain. It is the state that is most rapid in frequency and allows you to large amounts of information in a short amount of time. Having high levels of gamma brainwaves though interestingly correlates with:
- having high levels of intelligence
- being compassionate
- having high amounts of self control
- having greater than average feelings of happiness
- an increased awareness of your five senses
Strangely it is said this gamma state is the least studied. Now the word gamma itself links to gamma ray (light) the highest level of light energy. Gamma is the third letter of the greek alphabet that derives from gimel a hebrew letter that is also symbolised by the numerical number 3. Now I don’t know about you but I find that fascinating! When you study hebrew in relation to gimel it directly links to God’s light, justice, reward and maturity; even the letter itself is topped with a crown symbol and apparently only seven letters have this in the hebrew alphabet. We can see in science and physics that gamma radiation is literal fire. Think about that as energy flow in your temple body. Should not gamma be the goal? The ancient Indonesians have the percussion instruments gamelan- surely they had understanding of this gamma as the goal.
“You are the light of the world.” Matt 5:14
Sound healing helps to synchronise brain waves to achieve a profound state of relaxation. It helps to restore the normal frequency of vibration in our cell state.
Sound Healing Examples
- singing bowls
- tuning forks
- binaural beats
- humming & vocal toning
- solfeggio frequencies
The solfeggio frequencies are fascinating as they use a set of sacred numbers with a repeating sequence of 3, 6 and 9. These balance your energy and bring healing to the dna. If you haven’t researched this yet please do! It is such a simple thing to introduce to your daily routine.
396 Hz – Liberating Guilt and Fear
417 Hz – Undoing Situations and Facilitating Change
528 Hz – Transformation and Miracles
639 Hz – Connecting Relationships
741 Hz – Awakening Intuition
852 Hz – Returning to Spiritual Order
963 Hz – Divine Consciousness or Enlightenment
Sound healing with the right hz frequencies will help to clear energetic blockages. Synchronise brainwave patterns and thus facilitate healing on a physical and mental level.
Sound Healing Helps
- lowering stress levels
- fewer mood swings
- lowers blood pressure
- lowers cholesterol
- improves sleep
- pain relief
What ever you are battling with in your health and wellbeing journey it can’t hurt to try to introduce some ancient practises like sound healing and music therapy. Make sure you choose the appropriate frequencies as the hz levels are everything. A little study on when and why the frequencies changed in history may help some awareness as to why our modern music isn’t helping us much. It is basic science- old knowledge made new. Water holds memory, you are also made from water. Our bodies are extremely advanced vehicles that require regular literal tuning. This you will not find in a pill packet.
