Afternoon eKa CIRCLE
Things are happening today in the flow of calm and the creative. In between puppy wrangling, appointments and uploading some videos that we shot last week for the eKa CIRCLE website – I thought I would try my hand at some different types of face creams and body butters. You can trick these up as much as you like but the basic recipe base is VERY simple. Let me know what you try and spread the word about our swap and trade community.
Here is the recipe for a shea based body butter or face cream. Today I used grapeseed oil spiked with frankincense essential oils for the face cream. Great for anti wrinkle.ย ย For the body butter I used a mixture of coconut oil and grapeseed oil, flavoured with cedar and orange sweet oil. These are lovely earthy scents for winter. Make sure whatever oils you use are fresh and organic as your skin is the bodies largest organ and literally drinks in whatever you place on it. You will notice the proportions for the recipes are the same, 2 parts shea butter to 1 part oil of your choice. You may need to thin down at the whipping stage in winter as shea and coconut oil set firmer in colder weather. Do not heat the liquid oils as it affects their vitamin content and stability. Here are a few options for some great oils to experiment with or try a blend of your favourites -apricot, olive, argan, almond, jojoba, macadamia and chia oils. Some oils such as avocado and macadamia oil do not keep as long as other oils so if you want to extend the shelf life you can store in the fridge or make smaller quantities.
Stay hydrated and moisturise morning and evening for happy, healthy winter skin.

Basic Body Butterย
1/2 cup shea butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
grapeseed oil
essential oils
Melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a glass bowl or jug over a double boiler. Set aside to cool, you can place in the fridge if you want to hurry this along.
Beat the mixture until light and fluffy using a mixer or stick blender. Add a little grapeseed oil (or oil of your choice) to achieve a spreadable texture. This will vary somewhat depending on the climate. Add a good splash of essential oils to scent. Place into reusable jars or pots and smooth the top with a palette knife. Seal immediately.
