Hi eKa CIRCLE,
It’s a blustery windy day today here in Sydney, so a great day to stay in and experiment with all things natural.
I have been really working at cutting out as many store bought beauty products and cleaning products as possible in the last year. They are surprisingly easy to prepare and work really well. Our eKa CIRCLE dream is a community to swap and share products and valuable natural knowledge.
Earlier this year a great friend of mine Shibani visited her hometown Koraput in Odisha, India. She brought back a very exciting gift of special bright orange natural turmeric for me to experiment with. This is one of the few regions that do not add artificial colourings to the turmeric, it is 100 per cent completely natural. It is grown, dried and ground by one family in the region I love that! I have incredibly fond memories of turmeric while living in Java Indonesia drinking jamu; which is a natural home made tonic that uses fresh turmeric and other bevy of herbs and spices to encourage good health.Β I also recall being massaged and smeared with a turmeric paste after having my second child, the tradition is to then bind the stomach region with cloth after giving birth. It helps the swelling to go down and it really did seem to work for me. All be it a messy process. I found I recovered very quickly compared to my first child that was born in Sydney Australia. Ancient cultures have so much incredible natural knowledge passed down through the generations that we in the west are only just beginning to embrace. This is exactly the aim of eKa to bring back the old ways and share knowledge with others.
For quite a while now I’ve been dreaming of a homemade natural toothpaste that included a turmeric that naturally whitens the teeth without fluoride. I have been using a natural charcoal with a drop of peppermint oil for quite a while on my teeth which I wont lie does take a while to adjust to using! Not to mention makes a bit of a mess in the white porcelain sink. Today seemed like a great day to try a new and improved turmeric version. This is my first time testing thisΒ and I am sure it can be improved on but it tastes pleasant and makes my teeth feel squeaky clean and my breath feel fresh.
Here is the recipe for my first attempt at a natural home made toothpaste. I would love to hear from you, maybe you have some better suggestions? This recipe amount made 3 x 30 ml pots that I can gift or swap with others and the amount in the jar that should last me a while. I suppose if you prefer a sweeter toothpaste you could add a little natural stevia?
Let me know if you give this a try?
light and love
